More and more elevators in Ukraine: who was building in 2020 and what are the plans for 2021?

The expansion of elevator storage capacity in Ukraine does not stop no matter what. Neither the antihero of the year 2020 – the coronavirus, nor the economic slowdown, nor the drought and low harvest, thwarted Ukrainian farmers’ plans to build facilities. Some companies did cut construction, but most completed the planned projects.

Year 2020

Last year, storage capacity was increased thanks to elevators located at railway lines and in port terminals.

Farms and companies built elevators practically all over the country. In the Khmelnytsky, Kiev, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Luhansk oblasts – both new and modernized elevators were built, and some companies even built several new facilities. The capacity of river terminals has also increased, as cereal producers see great opportunities in the development of river logistics.

Epicentr Agro continued the rhythm of construction and modernization of elevators undertaken in 2019. The company has become a leader in building elevators in Ukraine and maintained this position in 2020. During the year, two new facilities appeared in the Epicentr Agro portfolio.

In 2020, the company launched a new elevator at the “Pererobnyk” facility with a total storage capacity of 105 thousand tone. The facility is located in the village of Ivanovka, in the Kiev region. Polish manufacturer – FEERUM, designed, produced and delivered all the necessary devices.

In autumn 2020, Epicentr Agro completed the construction of further silos in the Zakupne elevator. The elevator became the center of grain purchase in the Khmelnytsky region, with a road connection. In 2019, the storage capacity of the Zakupne facility increased to 105 thousand tonnes, and in 2020 up to 305 thousand tone. The facility is equipped with new storage tanks of 200 thousand tonnes. Investments in the Zakupne elevator amounted to over 390 million UAH.

The extension was also carried out in the Vinnitsia complex. It was the third stage of construction and ended in the fall of 2020. Grain storage capacity increased by 207 thousand tonnes, which gives 375 thousand tonnes of simultaneous storage.

The elevator of Farvud LLC has been operating in the Vinnitsa region for 10 years, and for the jubilee in 2020, storage capacity increased by 26.3 thousand tonnee. Currently, it is possible to store 42 thousand tonnes of grain. The silos were designed and manufactured by FEERUM (Poland).

Plans for the construction of elevators and terminals in 2021

This year, some companies will complete projects started in 2019/2020, the other part of the market plans to expand and start new projects from scratch.

If the announced plans to build elevators along the transport routes are implemented, the capacity on the Ukrainian elevator market will increase by at least 430 thousand tonnes.

Epicentr Agro completed the construction of two elevators in 2020, and the commissioning of several more facilities has been moved to this year.

The new elevator will be erected on the premises of the “Antoninski complex” in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, the construction of which began in 2020. The company will modernize the facility with flat warehouses into a modern elevator with a capacity of 100 thousand tonnes. We will find out about the effects of the work later this year.

At the end of 2020, Epicentr Agro announced that in the years 2021-2022 it plans to reach the level of 2-2.2 million tonnes of simultaneous cereal storage.
